AB and the Environment

Locate Employees in Green Buildings

We have located 90% of our employees in green buildings around the world.

Optimize
Energy Use

Our electricity emissions have remained relatively flat since 2019, even as our real estate footprint and employee-base have expanded.

Engage
Employees

AB's Sustainability Councils invite employees around the world to engage in global discussions and regional activities surrounding sustainability.

Greening AB’s Workspaces

In 2024, we relocated our New York office and completed a multi-year journey to enhance our workspaces and locate 85% of employees in green buildings. This move helped us exceed our goal, ultimately locating 90% of our people in green buildings.

Our New York office is located in the Spiral, a LEED Gold-certified building known for its green terraces that spiral upward around the building. The building’s design offers ample natural light and outdoor access, while AB’s offices are 3-Star Fitwel certified.

Other offices located in green buildings include our Nashville headquarters (LEED Silver), our London offices (BREEAM Outstanding) and our Pune building (Indian Green Building Council Platinum).

Office Waste

We seek to minimize our office waste through both waste separation at our offices and conscious decommissioning of our offices.

Composting and recycling are available at our Nashville, New York and London offices. Trash separation is available elsewhere.

Energy Use

We recognize that renewable energy is a key element of reducing emissions and delivering on our commitment to operational net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050. We consider credible renewable energy procurement to be a multiyear process.

AB's Nashville and London offices leverage renewable energy. In Nashville, AB participates in the Tennessee Valley Authority's Green Flex program via Green-e Energy-certified renewable energy certificates. In London, our landlord procures renewable energy for the building certified by the UK's Carbon Trust.

Employee Engagement

Our Sustainability Councils invite employees to use resources efficiently and practice sustainability at work and home. They host events, such as tree planting, sampling local or sustainable foods. These activities complement other activities at the firm, such as healthy snacks and fair-trade coffees in our pantries.
